City of Waco selects low-cost provider, Liberty Power to meet city’s energy needs
FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla.– September 12, 2008 – Liberty Power, one of the fastest- growing, independent retail electric providers in the United States, today announced that it has signed a 24-month contract with the City of Waco to supply an estimated 58,000 megawatt-hours of power to the Texas city annually.
Beginning in October, Liberty Power will supply electricity to power the city’s traffic lights, street lights, and government facilities including the local police station and City Hall. The contract was awarded through a highly-competitive online auction facilitated by World Energy. Liberty Power was selected from a total of 63 competitive bids not only because of its low-cost offer, but also because the company was able to provide summary billing – the preferred method of billing for many municipalities.
Originally founded to serve small and medium-sized businesses, Liberty Power quickly expanded and diversified its base of customers, and now has over five years of experience serving various municipalities and federal government customers including the City of Temple, Texas, City of New Britain, Connecticut, and the Defense Energy Support Center.
“We are very pleased with our recent agreement with Liberty Power. Liberty Power was able to meet all of our requirements – to provide us with a low-cost, fixed-price contract, give us the budget certainty we need, and deliver an easy-to-understand summary billing format,” said Danny Jackson, City of Waco Engineering Administrator-Facilities.
The City of Waco is located in the heart of the Texas manufacturing and technology corridor on Interstate Highway 35, just 90 miles south of Dallas and 100 miles north of Austin. Located in McLennan County, the city population is approximately 114,000 and the metropolitan area population is approximately 214,000.
“Liberty Power is honored to serve the City of Waco and welcome them to our family of government customers,” said David Hernandez, CEO of Liberty Power. “We are proud to support the City of Waco not just in procuring the lowest-cost power, but also obtaining the specific products and services they desire.”
