The State of Maryland opened for competition in July 2000, with all customer classes becoming eligible for retail electric choice. However, large quantities of electric load did not begin switching to competitive suppliers until the gradual phase-out of the utilities' Standard Offer Service (SOS) rate caps.
Rate caps for business customers ended in 2004. With rates for Standard Offer Service rising substantially, Liberty Power entered the market to bring lower priced electricity to commercial business customers.
At this time we currently serve small and mid-size businesses, large national accounts and government and institutional customers in both the BG&E and PEPCO service territories.
The share of state electric load being competitively supplied increased from 28% at the end of 2005 to 45% by the fourth quarter of 2006 and is expected to easily top 60% this year.
We have introduced a variety of innovative fixed price products at various term lengths that guarantee price protection over time. As a result, we're proud to report that thousands of your fellow Maryland business owners and managers as well as numerous National Accounts and government agencies have chosen Liberty Power as their retail electricity supplier.
