Liberty Power One of Fastest Growing Electricity Providers in US

FORT LAUDERDALE – September 21, 2006 – Liberty Power, the first and only national, minority–owned retail power provider, today announced that CEO David Hernandez has been named “Businessman of the Year” for the southeast region of the United States by the U.S. Hispanic Chamber of Commerce (USHCC). Hernandez received the award this morning at a breakfast at the 27th Annual USHCC National Convention in Philadelphia. Hernandez is also one of six finalists for the distinction of National Hispanic Businessman of the Year, which will be announced at an awards ceremony at the convention on Saturday evening, September 23.

Hernandez co–founded Liberty Power in 2001 and has grown the company to more than $100 million in annual revenues with service territories in Maryland, New York, Texas and Washington D.C. The prestigious USHCC Businessman of the Year for Region VI is awarded each year to the Hispanic businessperson who has shown exemplary leadership and attained excellence in the business world. The awards pay tribute to the achievements and innovations of U.S. Hispanics, the fastest growing minority group in the country. The regional award winners are selected by an independent panel of judges from the public and private sector, and are finalists for the National Hispanic Leadership & Business Excellence Awards.

“It is an honor to receive this award and be a finalist for the national award,” said Hernandez. “At Liberty Power, we have a team of humble, hungry and smart people who are proving that competition and opportunity, especially in the electricity markets, can benefit consumers and businesses of all sizes. The USHCC is a first–class organization for professionals, small business owners and corporate entrepreneurs and we look forward to continuing our support of them and their mission to promote the accomplishments of Hispanic businesses throughout the country.”

This is the third year in a row that Hernandez has received national recognition for his accomplishments as a business leader. Most recently he was named National Hispanic Entrepreneur of the Year by the National Hispanic Professional Organization (www.nhpo.us). Last year, Hispanic Business magazine selected Hernandez the 2005 Hispanic Entrepreneur of the Year and in 2004 the magazine named him a finalist for the 2004 Entrepreneur of the Year.
