Small Steps Can Result in Large Savings
FORT LAUDERDALE – December, 2006 – Liberty Power, dedicated to providing low–cost electricity to the business community, offers some simple strategic tips to help businesses save money on electricity costs during the holiday season. For small and medium sized businesses, energy costs often amount to the equivalent of 50 percent of what they pay in rent. During the holiday season, many businesses work extended hours, leading to even higher energy expenses.
According to the National Federation of Independent Business, about a quarter of small business owners list energy costs among their highest expenses, but fewer than half actually do anything to mitigate these expenses.
Liberty Power wants to remind all businesses that even small steps can result in large savings during this holiday season. Liberty Power´s holiday cost saving tips include:
Businesses should be sure to turn off overhead and unnecessary lighting after hours. While lighting may be needed for security purposes, select energy efficient light bulbs for all lighting, especially lighting used 24 hours.
Businesses should remind their employees to shut down computers when they leave each night and turn off computer monitors.
Unplug any appliances that are not used on a regular basis. While the fax machine may always need to be plugged in, appliances like the shredder or electric stapler can be kept unplugged except for during use.
Keep office temperatures between 65 and 67 degrees. Set the office or store thermostat to automatically remain in that temperature range during the day and even lower at night when the business is closed.
Businesses should work with their property manager to ensure windows are well sealed. Weather stripping is an inexpensive way to reduce energy costs.
Businesses should contact their power provider to seek the best plan for their business needs. Liberty Power offers a variety of products, including variable, fixed and customized options designed to meet every business situation. Products are offered in monthly, annual and multi–year terms.
Liberty Power provides electricity to more than 20,000 small and medium–sized businesses in Texas, New York, Maryland and the District of Columbia.
