Liberty Power: National Hispanic Professional Organization (NHPO) gives Liberty Power CEO David Hernandez its Annual “National Hispanic Entrepreneur of the Year Award”

Houston – On September 7, 2006 – Before a gathering of over 300 Hispanic business and civic leaders at The Magic Island restaurant in Houston, the National Hispanic Professional Organization awarded Liberty Power CEO and Co–Founder David Hernandez its Annual National Hispanic Entrepreneur of the Year award.

The National Hispanic Entrepreneur of the Year award is given to Hispanic professionals who have “met challenges with success and who have made a difference in the Hispanic business community,” said Ben Mendez, President of the NHPO. “We chose to honor David because of his great success in such a short time. After being laid off from Enron, he and his partners built a company that surpassed $100 million in revenue in 2005 after just four years of operations. Furthermore, by establishing the Liberty Power Foundation, David has proven that he has not forgotten his Hispanic roots,” said Mendez.

The NHPO is a networking, non–profit, membership–based organization that provides a myriad of educational seminars and professional development training to foster and promote self improvement, professional advancement and personal achievement. The award was presented at the event by J.R. Gonzales, former President of the US Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, and currently President of JRG Communications.

“It is an honor to receive this award and I do so, on behalf of my partners, our employees and above all, our customers. At Liberty Power, we have a team of humble, hungry and smart people who are proving that competition and opportunity, especially in the electricity markets, mean goods things to consumers,” said Hernandez, “The NHPO is a great organization for professionals, small business owners and corporate entrepreneurs alike, and we look forward to continuing our support of them and their mission.”

Hernandez was also recently chosen by the United States Hispanic Chamber of Commerce as Businessman of the Year for Region VI. Last year he was named the 2005 Hispanic Entrepreneur of the Year by Hispanic Business magazine and was chosen as a finalist for the Entrepreneur of the Year in 2004 by Hispanic Business magazine.
