Liberty Power: Power Partners: The Liberty Foundation Sponsors "Teen Read Week" At The Pasadena Public Library
Houston, Texas – September 23, 2004 – Liberty Power, a national, independent retail electricity provider, announced today that its non–profit subsidiary, The Liberty Foundation, will fund the purchase of several computers to be awarded at the conclusion of “Teen Read Week” at the City of Pasadena Public Library. “Teen Read Week” is a week long series of events at the Library aimed at encouraging reading, creative writing and artistic expression among the teenage population in the City of Pasadena.
Earlier this year, Liberty Power was awarded a multi–year contract to supply power to the municipal government of Pasadena, Texas. The Liberty Foundation is a non–profit subsidiary of Liberty Power, with the mission of creating and funding children’s educational programs in the communities which Liberty Power serves.
“From the inception of our firm, Liberty Power has been committed to contributing to community service initiatives. Additionally, all of the principals at Liberty Power felt that education was the key enabler for the achievements in our lives.” said David Hernandez, CEO of Liberty Power.
“We established the Liberty Foundation as the vehicle through which we can give back to the communities of Liberty Power customers,” said Eliezer Hernandez, Senior Board Member of the Liberty Foundation and Chief Relationship Officer for Liberty Power. “Working with the Pasadena Public Library to enable the success of “Teen Read Week” is an honor and a privilege for all the folks at Liberty Power.”
Sheila Ross Henderson, Library Director for the Pasadena Public Library System, indicates that this partnership fulfills one of her initial goals set four years ago as she planned the direction of library services. “My goal was to have a business or businesses sponsor special programs and services to supplement the City budget that covers basic services, staffing and facilities.”
Pasadena Mayor John Manlove expressed appreciation for Liberty Power’s generous support. “Encouraging children in our community to read is one of the most important things we can do to help them achieve success later in life. I appreciate Liberty Power´s generosity and their commitment to the Pasadena community.”
Kerry Doucette, Purchasing Director for the City of Pasadena said, “It´s great to see Liberty Power, through its Liberty Foundation, really ‘turning on’ the power of Pasadena youth to excel in literacy through the Teen Read Week awards. We´re pleased that Liberty Power has made this commitment to our community, and to our city´s partnership with them.”
